Hi Grandma & Poppy! I am still in Japan for a few more days, but I thought I'd put a few photos online now, and a few more when I get home... I'm having a great trip, except for the heat and humidity. My Japanese-speaking ability is coming back to me a little bit, too!

This is me with my friend Rie's daughter, Hohomi-chan (at her 4-year-old brother's preschool, in Yamaguchi Prefecture).And here are two photos of Mount Fuji that I took from a moving bullet train... I'd seen it from an airplane before, but this was the first time I've ever seen it from the train-- it's always been too cloudy before!

We also went to a summer lantern festival in Nara, where I've been with Jess, too, when she came to visit me in Japan!

My trip to Vancouver

I thought Vancouver was so beautiful, just like you said! And the weather was perfect while I was there. Here are a few photos from my trip.


One my first day there, I rented bikes with a friend and rode along the seawall, around the edges of Stanley Park. It was such a pretty bikeride that I did it again with another friend on my last day in Vancouver, too!

A friend's wedding in Santa Barbara

My friend Janie got married last week, and most of my linguistics department was invited to the wedding. The ceremony was in a little public garden in downtown Santa Barbara.

Here I am with one of my favorite professors, Sandy, who was on my MA committee.
And here are my friends Janie and Rich, with another one of my professors, Mary, officiating. (She only got licensed for one day to perform one wedding ceremony!)
